Irelands largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, have today slashed the odds on a Papal visit to Ireland taking place next year from 8/1 to 2/1. The move was prompted by a cascade of bets placed through the bookies website over the past 48-hours which will result in an unprecedented payout in excess of €10,000 should the Pontiff decide to visit Ireland next year.

The intensity of betting on the Pope to visit Ireland next year suggests that somebody has let the papal cat out of the bag. To put it another way if money could talk it would tell the young people of Ireland to make ready the Popemobile.
