It’s been almost three months since the ash cloud caused chaos worldwide but thousands of holiday makers are still chasing compensation from their airlines and many now fear they’ll never get their money back.
Ryanair alone has so far processed 1.1m claims but punters are anxious that O’Leary and co will look at every angle to avoid paying back in full. On the back of customers anxieties Paddy Power have opened betting on just how many of the 1.1m claims will be fully paid back.
It’s 9/4 that less than 250,000 will receive full compensation and an unlikely 16/1 that over 1m claims will be realised. The odds on half the claims getting the go ahead are just 4/1.
Ryanair is insisting on “VAT registered” receipts which is causing concern to many travellers who were forced to stay at rented premises as opposed to hotels during the ash cloud disruption.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said:
Let’s face it, Ryanair have an interesting approach to customer service so it will be eagerly watched as to how this one plays out. The likelihood of all claimants having “VAT-registered” receipts is slim so there could be a lot of disappointed customers.
